Unbleached Knots on Your Closure or Frontal? 3 Fixes That Work
From the quickest fix to the most natural — without putting your knots at risk.
If your closure or frontal arrived with unbleached knots, you can fix them without bleach by covering them from the underside. The most natural fix is a grid knot concealer in a thin layer across the parting space, because it hides the knots and the lace grid together.
Closures are where unbleached knots hurt most. The whole parting sits on one small patch of lace, so every dark dot is right where people look.
Closure vs. frontal: what’s different
Your three fixes
Change the part
- Free and instant
- Limits how you style the unit
Bleach the knots
- Permanent if done right
- Can turn brassy
- Can weaken knots and cause shedding
Cover with concealer
- Hides knots and grid
- No chemicals on the knots
- Refresh any time
How to cover unbleached knots on a closure
- Turn the closure or frontal inside out.
- Pick your shade by skin tone; go lighter if you are between shades.
- Melt The Lace Wig Grid Knot Concealer with the Kugel™ Melter, freshly boiled water, or a blow dryer.
- Apply one thin layer across the parting space and blend it flat.
- Let it set, then install.
Because it isn’t a chemical process, your knots stay intact. To refresh, wash with very warm water and soap (a first wash with dish soap cuts through it), then shampoo and condition. It leaves no sticky residue, though it may leave a very faint tint on the lace.

Questions we get asked
Do I treat the whole frontal?
No. Treat the parting space only. Lay your hairline and edges the way you normally do.
Will covering the knots cause shedding?
Covering is not a chemical process, so it does not weaken the knots the way over-bleaching can.
Does it work on HD and transparent lace?
Yes, it works on all lace types. On very thin lace, use the thinnest layer you can.
How long does it last?
It wears down over time and refreshes easily. In rare cases you may want a touch-up after one wear.
Black dots? Not on your part.
Cover unbleached knots on any closure or frontal in one thin layer.
