How to Hide Knots on a Lace Wig Without Bleaching
Three bleach-free ways to make those little black dots disappear, and the one that covers the grid too.
You can hide the knots on a lace wig without bleaching by covering them instead of lightening them. The three common ways are foundation or powder, lace tint spray, and a lace wig grid knot concealer. Only the concealer is made to cover both the knots and the lace grid in one step.
Those tiny black dots in your parting are the knots where each strand is tied to the lace. Bleaching lightens them, but it takes skill, and over-processing can weaken the knots and lead to shedding. If you have ever turned your knots orange or watched hair fall from a brand-new part, you already know the risk.
Why knots show in the first place
Every hair on a lace wig is hand-tied into a tiny hole in the lace mesh. Dark hair means dark knots. Even when the knots are lightened, the mesh itself — the grid — can still catch the light up close. That is why so many wearers fix the knots and still feel their part looks “wiggy.”
Three ways to hide knots without bleach
Foundation or powder
- Cheap and already in your bag
- Quick fix for tonight
- Only colours the lace
- Can rub off, transfer or sweat off
Lace tint spray
- Fast, even colour on a frontal
- Doesn’t fill anything
- Knots and grid texture remain
Grid knot concealer
- Covers knots and grid in one step
- No chemicals on your knots
- Blend shades to your exact tone
How to apply it (parting space only)
The Lace Wig Grid Knot Concealer is the 2-in-1 I invented. It doesn’t just colour the lace — it sits in the grid, so the part reads as scalp.
- Choose your shade by skin tone, not scalp. Between two shades? Go lighter: it applies lighter than it looks in the tube.
- Turn the wig inside out so you are working on the underside of the lace.
- Melt the concealer with the Kugel™ Melter, a tube stood in freshly boiled water, or a blow dryer.
- Apply one thin layer to the parting space and blend it flat into the lace. Thin layers prevent flaking.
- Let it set, then install as normal — glueless or glued.
Most of my customers blend two of our four shades to land on their exact colour. Start lighter — you can always deepen it.
Not sure where you sit? Our Find Your Shade page walks you through it, and the Application Guide has video tutorials.
Bleaching lightens the dots. Concealing makes the whole part read as scalp.
Bleach or no bleach?
If you love bleaching and you’re good at it, keep going. If you want a realistic part without chemicals touching your knots, cover instead of lighten. I compare both in detail in Knot Bleaching vs. Lace Wig Knot Concealer.
Questions we get asked
Can I hide knots without bleaching on HD lace?
Yes. HD lace is thin, so use thin layers and blend them flat into the lace.
Does the concealer wash out?
It wears down over time. A 35ml tube gives about 20 uses. To remove it, wash with very warm water and soap, then shampoo and condition as normal.
Is it safe for my lace?
It is made from clays, plant oils and botanical powders and is not a chemical process like bleach. Always do a patch test first.
Does it work on glueless wigs?
Yes. It works on all lace types, glueless or glued.
Hide the knots. Keep the bleach in the cupboard.
The Lace Wig Grid Knot Concealer covers the knots and the lace grid in one step. Four blendable shades.
